Managing your diabetes medication
Medication adherence means taking the right dose at the right time, in the right way. It’s vital to managing any chronic condition, including diabetes.
Here are some quick tips:
- Organize your daily pills in a pill container and refill it on the same day, at the same time each week. Use one that has separate daily slots for a.m./mid-day/p.m. slots, if appropriate.
- Use your smart phone to set reminder alarms for the same times every day. If you aren’t tech savvy, just ask your grandkids for help.
- If you don’t already, get to know your local pharmacists. They don’t just fill your prescriptions. They can also help you manage them. Ask them about options such as synchronizing refills and “blister” packs if organizing medicine yourself is just too hard.
